David has 27 years of strategy consulting experience. He joined
as a Director of Port Jackson Partners in 2002, after 16 years with
McKinsey where he led McKinsey's global practice area in Growth and
Business Building. David served CEOs and Boards of major companies
in Australia, North America and Asia. He has 27 years
experience in providing advice to leaders on strategy, growth and
organisation issues. David has worked across a wide range of
industry sectors including retailing, consumer goods,
manufacturing, oil and gas exploration and production, oil refining
and marketing, insurance, credit cards, and private equity.
Prior to joining Port Jackson Partners David was a Director
(Senior Partner) of McKinsey & Company where he worked for 16
years.
David joined McKinsey's Sydney office in 1984. In 1991,
David was elected to the international partnership of McKinsey at
the age of 29, following several years in McKinsey's New York and
Toronto offices. He was elected a Director (senior partner) of
McKinsey in 1997.
In 1995 David co-founded McKinsey's Growth and Business Building
Practice, and from 1995 to 2000 had worldwide leadership
responsibility for the practice, including intellectual capital
creation, client development and practice infrastructure.
Following a sabbatical year, David joined Port Jackson Partners as
a Director in 2002. He was appointed Managing Partner in 2009.
David is a co-author of 'The Alchemy of Growth-
kick-starting and sustaining growth in your company', which has
been translated into a dozen languages and which has sold over
100,000 copies worldwide. The 'three horizon' framework, which is
the central thesis of the book, is being actively used in several
hundred corporations around the globe.
David is also author of more than 20 articles which have been
published in journals such as Sloan MIT Management Review, McKinsey
Quarterly and Journal of Business Strategy.
David also has some experience as an investor in early stage
venture capital funded companies.
David holds degrees in Law and Economics (University of Sydney).
He received Honours in Law and was Dux of Economics.
David is a student of Tibetan Buddhism and holds a role with the
Ripga organisation which offers courses of study in meditation
practice and Buddhist philosophy. He also enjoys swimming and
skiing. David is married to Lisa and has three children: Justin,
Isabella and Vanessa.
