Business Analyst

Back to people listing

Management consultancy is not the most obvious career path for a politics student. I chose this profession because I wanted to gain a holistic understanding of business and develop both my qualitative and quantitative skills. I felt PJPL was the best place to do this because of its unique structure, the clients it attracts, and the talent it employs.

A strong support network

One of the key reasons why I chose to work at PJPL - and why I enjoy working here now - is the people I get to work with. Starting as a Business Analyst at PJPL required me to move interstate from Adelaide. This, in combination with my limited prior financial knowledge, made the prospect of commencing work as an Analyst in Sydney quite daunting. The transition was made much easier by the people at PJPL. My colleagues were, and still are, more than happy to help me out whenever they can, regardless of their position and despite their own work challenges. Their assistance and easy-going attitude allowed me to settle in quickly, and PJPL social events have made my transition all the more enjoyable.

Tailored personal development

There are many opportunities to learn at PJPL, both formally and informally. The training program is tailored to the individual, so if there is a specific area you would like assistance with PJPL will ensure you receive it. The training I have undertaken in my short time at PJPL has included one-on-one accounting lessons with one of my colleagues, presentation advice and feedback with the other graduates, externally run communications training, and a partner-led strategy day.    In addition to structured training, I am continuously learning on the job from my peers, Partners and industry professionals.

Competent and collaborative colleagues

My colleagues come from a variety of backgrounds and bring with them a diverse set of skills. Fortunately their competence is complemented by a willingness to share their knowledge and help others, so I always feel comfortable asking for their opinion.

Career highlights

In my 18 months at PJPL I have already worked on a strategic review for one of Australia's best-known manufacturers and a number of projects for an equally well-known Australian retailer.

From my very first week I have being working closely with the middle management of these big companies, while also regularly meeting with their CEOs and senior management.

Outside interests / hobbies

I am interested in social business and would like to try my hand at managing one at some point in the future. I enjoy travelling, particularly in Spanish speaking countries, and spending time at the beach.
