David White David White is a Director of Port Jackson Partners Limited, having joined in 2002. David was formerly a Director (Senior Partner) of McKinsey & Company, where he worked for 16 years. David has served CEOs and Boards of major companies in Australia, North America and Asia. He has 23 years experience in providing advice to leaders on strategy, growth and organisation issues. David has worked across a wide range of industry sectors including retailing, consumer goods, manufacturing, oil and gas exploration and production, oil refining and marketing, insurance, credit cards, and private equity. David joined McKinsey’s Sydney office in 1984. In 1991, David was elected to the international partnership of McKinsey at the age of 29, following three years in McKinsey’s New York and Toronto offices. In 1995 David co-founded McKinsey’s Growth and Business Building Practice, and from 1995 to 2000 had worldwide leadership responsibility for the practice, including intellectual capital creation, client development and practice infrastructure. In 1997, David was elected a Director (senior partner) of McKinsey and continued to divide his time equally between the leadership of the Growth Practice internationally and serving several CEOs in Australia. David is a co-author of ‘The Alchemy of Growth— kick-starting and sustaining growth in your company’, which has been translated into a dozen languages and which has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide. The ‘three horizon’ framework, which is the central thesis of the book, is being actively used in several hundred corporations around the globe. David is also author of more than 20 articles which have been published in journals such as Sloan MIT Management Review, McKinsey Quarterly and Journal of Business Strategy. These articles have covered strategy topics (e.g. ‘When And When Not to Vertically Integrate’, ‘Turning Capabilities To Advantages’), organisation topics (e.g. ’Performance Measures: Calibrating For Growth’) industry topics (e.g. ‘Revolution In Oil and Gas’,) and finance topics (e.g. ‘Capturing Value From Dividend Imputation’). David is also experienced as an investor in early stage venture capital funded companies and emerging growth companies. David holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Sydney where he graduated first in his year, and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours, also from the University of Sydney. |
