Daniel Turley
Daniel holds a First Class Honours degree in Chemical
Engineering from the University of New South Wales, where he was
awarded the University Medal. Daniel was also a recipient of a Co-op
Scholarship, undertaking 18 months industrial training while completing
his degree. Daniel will shortly commence a full-time MBA at The Wharton
School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Since joining Port Jackson Partners in 2004, Daniel has
worked in the retail, oil and gas, energy, wholesale distribution,
manufacturing and construction materials industries.
Examples of recent work
- Worked with a large Australian oil and gas company to
develop the long term strategic direction and optimal end-to-end
business model, including:
- Designing and facilitating a series of workshops
with senior management around the future evolution of the industry
- Developing long term views around key business
drivers and evaluating a range of ownership and restructuring options,
including business unit divestments, mergers, joint ventures and
acquisitions
- Worked with a large energy company to improve its
competitive position within the industry structure, including:
- Understanding the competitive landscape within the
industry
- Evaluating the strategic rationale for vertical
integration through a joint venture to mitigate risk and create growth
options
- Developing a road map for deal negotiations,
including a valuation of the business and assessment of key commercial
terms
- Assisted a wholesale distribution company to develop
strategies to improve their existing businesses and promote future
growth, including:
- Investigating options to rationalise and optimise
their inventory holding and distribution network
- Understanding the role of generalist and specialist
retailers in serving key customer segments
- Tuning organisational accountabilities and
incentives to encourage improved performance
- Worked with an Australian construction materials
company to evaluate strategies for building a business in South-East
Asia, including:
- Understanding the structure of the industry and the
attractiveness of the future positioning of the business
- Understanding potential risks and assessing their
impact on business value
- Developing a regional strategy to manage risks and
improve performance through leveraging existing positions in the region
