Michelle Hone

Michelle joined Port Jackson Partners in 2006 as a Business Analyst after receiving First Class Honours in a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering at the University of New South Wales. Michelle was a Co-Op scholar at university, which involved completing 18 months of industrial training across a wide range of industries including water treatment, food and beverages, refining, and construction project management.

Whilst at Port Jackson Partners, Michelle has worked in the oil and gas, and building construction materials industries.

Examples of recent work
  • Member of a cross-functional team for a large, Australian oil and gas company to review its long term strategic direction across all business units. In particular:

    • Understanding the forces at work in the industry, how these may impact the company in the future, and potential responses

    • Generating a series of alternative long term strategies the company could pursue

    • Valuing each strategic option to identify the highest value adding strategy

Highlights included making assessments of alternative raw material sources, investigating processing upgrade and expansion alternatives, determining the optimal infrastructure and identifying marketing growth options.

Specifically, Michelle generated models to forecast long term product margins based on underlying supply and demand, valued potential acquisitions and assisted in communicating these ideas and those of the team in a clear and compelling manner to senior management.

  • Assisted an Australian construction materials company to assess the value of an industry restructuring opportunity in the timber industry.

Maintaining a work-life balance is a high priority for Michelle—her other interests include participating in many sports, such as dragon boating, touch football, indoor soccer, running and cycling, which have been incorporated into office life through the Port Jackson Sharks soccer team, annual Tennis Tournament, City-2-Surf team, Australian Corporate Games team and participation in other Corporate events such as the BRW triathlon.
