Rod Sims

As a Director of Port Jackson Partners Limited, which he joined in 1994, Rod Sims has advised many Boards, Chief Executives and senior managers on issues of commercial strategy and organisation. His commercial advisory relationships have covered a wide range of industries, including construction, energy, mining, petroleum, rail, agriculture, health, telecommunications and media.

Rod Sims’ work has ranged from advising on future growth options, acquisitions and corporate and business unit strategy in general, to advising on business improvement. Rod has also been extensively involved in advising on effective Board operation and organisation redesign and processes so that sound strategies can be translated into business success.

Rod Sims’ other current roles include:

  • Chairman of the NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART)
  • Chairman of InfraCo Asia, a Singapore-based and aid donor funded project development company
  • Commissioner on the National Competition Council
  • Director of Ingeus Limited, a company which provides employment services in the United Kingdom, France and Germany
  • Member of the Research and Policy Council of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA)

  • Chairman, Rail Infrastructure Corporation, NSW
  • Chairman of Inglewood Farms, Australia’s largest organic chicken and grain producer
  • Chairman, Sustainable Energy Limited, Papua New Guinea
  • Member, COAG Energy Review (the Parer Report) 2002
  • Deputy Secretary, Department of Transport and Communications (1993-94)
  • Deputy Secretary, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, responsible for advising on all aspects of domestic policy (economic, industry, social policy). Key role in originating, guiding and working with state governments on the Hilmer Competition Policy Review; and on the development of the National Energy Market, early water reform and the formation of the National Road Transport Commission (1990-1993)
  • Principal Economic Adviser to Prime Minister Bob Hawke (1988-90)

Rod Sims holds a first class honours degree in Commerce from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Economics from the Australian National University.
